Aromatic Variety
Rice in Bihar is grown approximately on 5.3 million hectares, covering 605 of the net Cropped  area of the state.  Agriculture is the dominant sector of the state economy,where 825 population is directly dependent on it.
 Aromatic rice are grown mainly in Bhagalpur and Magadh division. varities grown are katarani, Tulsi  Manjari , Badshaho , Karibank, Maureya, Mehijawain, Shyamjira,Tulsi Phool, Sonachur
And Shah pasand.their yield vary from 2.0-2.5t/ha.All land races of aromatic type grown in Bihar have fine but short grain and Consequently of low export values.

Sugandha: it is photosensitive with medium slender grain having good cooking quality.
Height is 145-150cm and matures in 160-165 days, giving an average yield of 25-30 q/ha. Grain length is 4.50mm
Kamini: Was developed as a selection from the famous local variety Katarani.Yield is 30-35 q/ha. Cooking quality is excellent. Grain Length is 5-50mm.
Pusa Basmati I: Developed at IARI,  Delhi, it was recommended for cultivation in Bihar.it has a high maturity duration of 105-110 days. Has a Yield of  35-40 q/ha. Grain length is 7.20mm.                                                                                                                                                               Using theses three donor parents, numerous crosses were made.
There is great scope of aromatic rice in Bihar . As evident except for length, all rices  from Bihar have the requisite traits . it may be emphasized that all kamini  has better taste and softness than even the Dehradun  rice after cooking.
